Although the highest cost option, it is typically the most durable, longest-lasting, and because it runs hotter it requires less frequent cleaning. Use 10x Magnifier Inspection Tool with Built-In LED Illumination (NC2042261) to inspect cone orifice condition. Use Skimmer ConeGuard (70-803-1008) to protect cone threads during cleaning. When not in use, keep cones stored in original packaging for protection. Perkin Elmer US LLC D-Torch 0-Slot Ceramic Outer Tube for Optima 8x00
In general, the ceramic outer tube has a much longer lifetime, greatly reducing interruptions and downtime due to torch failure. The replaceable outer tube is more economical to replace than having to change the complex quartz assembly of the standard Optima torch. Furthermore, when analyzing difficult sample types, the quartz outer tube can devitrify in a few hours of operation, while the optional ceramic outer tube can last years under the same conditions. The ceramic outer tube is of particular benefit for: The analysis of wear metals in engine oils, where quartz outer tubes often suffer from short lifetime. Si determinations, where quartz outer tubes often produce high background signals. Fusion samples or samples with high levels of dissolved solids which cause quartz tubes to devitrify.

A patented, precision-engineered, demountable torch, incorporating a ceramic inner tube for greater robustness & demountable quartz outer tube that can be replaced when it fails rather than replacing the entire torch. The greater the corrosion, the larger amount of energy is needed to produce a plasma of the same power. Coils in a corroded condition, increases the stress applied to other components in the RF generating system, and can shorten the lifetime of your torch.
